Using CAPTCHA -Proof-of-Work Joomla 6 -July 2026.

Introduction

At Joomla 6.1 a 'Proof of Work CAPTCHA' plugin has been introduced.
This CAPTCHA plugin presents a math task to the user's browser that the browser can solve automatically. It's not supposed to prove that the user is human, but to prove that the user is willing to invest the necessary time to solve the task. Currently it is based on the Altcha (altcha.org) library.
To find the plugin, then on the V4 button Home Dashboard click on V4 button system and then in the V4 button manage section click on V4 button plugins. Next, in the search box type say V4 search proof and click on the search button V4 button search.
This shows the CAPTCHA - Proof of Work plugin details as illustrated opposite.

Now click on the 'Difficulty' pulldown. This gives a choice of 'difficulties' as shown below.

The setup is now complete.

However, this demo only contains the most frequently used functions, as a complete overview is not possible due to the many variations and options. It therefore only shows a few possibilities as an initial overview.
